The purpose of the website is to provide club members and other cricket teams with information about our club, and we would welcome any constructive suggestions on how to improve and add to the content of the site, new pages or features to generally enhance the visitors experience of surfing the web with Mossdale.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing away of our long standing fixtures secretary, Terry 'The Duke' Newton. After a long illness, Terry died in hospital yesterday. His passing will be an immense loss not only to Mossdale Cricket Club but to friendly cricket in the East Midlands as a whole. He was a central figure on the local cricket scene devoting much of his spare time to organising all our fixtures, both for the regular season and our tours. What Terry didn't know about local cricket wasn't worth knowing.

In addition Terry was the go to man for any clubs in the area, and touring sides for that matter looking for fixtures from the East Midlands Pool, and over the last few years he had written and published a comprehensive directory of clubs in the East Midlands, personally visiting virtually all the clubs to take photos of pavilions etc.

During his playing days Terry could always be relied upon to keep a batsman pinned down with line and length, and for many years he held the club record for most wickets in a season, 77. His last game for Mossdale was against the old enemy, Ivanhoe to celebrate 25 years of the two sides playing each other, he was the only player from either side who had also played in the first game all those years ago, and whilst he didn't want to have a bowl, he proved he had lost none of his fielding skills by taking an extremely smart one handed catch in the slips.

Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

Leicester Mossdale are a friendlies only cricket club, formed out of an evening league side back in the early 70's, we are of mixed ages and abilities, from 17 to 70, we have a couple of league players who enjoy the crack of the friendly game and a number of 'hard core' friendly players who just want a run out at the weekend to get away from the wife and have a few beers!

Whatever side we put out we can generally make a good game of it because of the variety of skills and shall we say 'playing styles'. We play most of our games in the Leicestershire area, but often venture out to surrounding counties.

We usually have a full fixture card for both Saturdays and Sundays from April through to September as there is a very healthy friendly circuit in the county, but there may be an odd day here and there where a fixture can be slotted in, especially for touring sides. We can sometimes get a Sunday Seconds out too.

HOW TO FIND US

For the past 20 years or so, our home ground is located at Forest Park East, about 3 miles south-west ish from the city centre. It is a parish recreation ground on Kings Drive, we prepare the wicket ourselves, preferring not to leave such an important task to the council, and we are very proud to say that a number of visiting clubs have commented on the good standard of our wicket.

Unfortunately this may not continue to be the case for the 2011 season as the council are basically forcing what amounts to a 300% increase in rent on the club, together with a drastic reduction in facilities, issues which are taking up a lot of time to sort out. We hope to have resolved these issues one way or the other by the time the 2011 season starts, but a lot rests on how flexible the council will be.

If we are still playing home fixtures at Forest Park East, head out of Leicester on the A47 towards Hinckley, about 200 or 300 yards after you go over the M1 there is a set of pedestrian lights, opposite an off licence, turn left just after these lights. This is Kings Drive, it is signposted Parish Ground.

Follow the road round for about 150 yards, left bend then right bend, another 200 yards or so and you'll see the road carry straight on at the apex of another right hand bend, you should see the ground as you approach the bend.

I don't know the exact post code, but for sat navers try LE3 3JB, that should get you close!

Unfortunately the parish council won’t allow alcohol at the ground so we continue the apres match socialising at the The Bulls Head pub, a little way down the A47 past the Desford crossroads. Back onto the A47, left turn as if you were going to Hinckley, and carry on for 2 miles to the ESSO garage, straight through the lights, and the pub is a few hundred yards down on the left.
